Science Movie Night: Tarantula (1955)
Is it REAL Science or REEL Science? Join The City Library and the Utah Museum of
Natural History (UMNH) for free movie screenings followed by lively discussion with science
experts.   A scientist creates an experimental radiation-treated nutritional supplement that
transforms the title creature into a rampaging monster. The hungry arachnid graduates from
rabbits to cattle to people as it grows and creeps across the barren countryside in search of
food. Join UMNH Entomologist Christy Bills for a discussion of arachnids.   Main Library

Altered Book Art
Learn how to change an ordinary book into a unique work of art! Visit Whitmore Library’s new
teen area to get some great ideas to start on your own creative book art project. You can bring
your own book and supplies, or use the library’s. This will be a continuing craft program, with
several dates to work on your project in June and July. The library will feature a display of the
altered book artworks in August. For teens 12 and up.

West Jordan Kids Chess Club
6:00pm  Ages 6 & up. Join us for game-playing fun and instruction. The first Thursday of the
month includes a short instruction period with game play and the second meeting of the month is
open game play. The chess club is open to all skill levels, so come one and all and match wits

Nature Art for Kids and Their Grandparents
Bear River’s Education Center offers a presentation by local wildlife artist Michael Calles.  
Calles introduces children and their grandparents to the joy of capturing wildlife on paper,
learning the basics of wildlife drawing and painting. Participants must bring supplies -  a #4 pencil,
sketchpad, and a kneaded eraser.  Advance registration is required; call for details and to

Haworth is a board member and passionate supporter of The Leonardo at Library Square, an
organization devoted to the celebration and exploration of science, art, and culture. During her
residency, Haworth will conduct three workshops on science drawing for youth ages 9 to 14.
Workshops take place in the Special Collections Room on Level 4 of the Main Library;
materials will be provided.Seating is limited and registration is required by calling Level 4 at 322-

What do you know about Hispanic heritage? Do you love art? Here's your chance to show
your artistic abilities! Kids ages 7-11 are invited to participate in the children's drawing contest
"Éste es mi México/This is My Mexico." This workshop will briefly discuss Mexican art and
artists, and provide you with supplies to create an entry. Entries should illustrate your thoughts

Henna Metamorphosis
