The 15th Annual Park City Children’s Fair kicks off summer fun! Hosted by the Soaring Wings Montessori School, the fair will be held in City Park on Sunday, June 1st from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Rain or shine. Activities for the whole family include games, art, pony rides, live music prizes and food. All proceeds from the fair benefit local and global charities that support children and the environment. Pleasant Grove Orchestra Pops Concert The Pleasant Grove Orchestra presents its final concert of the 2007-2008 season at 7:30 pm on the east lawn of the Pleasant Grove Recreation Center (200 South 100 East). This will be a pops concert featuring music of the American west, and the orchestra will be under the direction of Kayson Brown. Sponsors for this concert include Pleasant Grove City, the Pleasant Grove Arts Commission, and corporate and private donors. This project is also supported by the Utah Arts Council, with funding from the State of Utah and the National Endowment for the Arts, which believes that a great nation deserves great art. Admission is free, and audience members should bring blankets and chairs to sit on. This concert is part of the Pleasant Grove Concerts in the Park series, which will continue on Sunday evenings at 7:30 pm at the same location throughout the summer. http://www.plgrove.org Pony Express Days Eagle Mountain celebrates its eleventh anniversary with a week of entertainment featuring a carnival, parade, all-terrain buggy tours, helicopter rides, an outdoor movie screening of Horton Hears a Who, a Dutch oven cook-off, a "Triple Threat" concert featuring BlackHawk, Little Texas, and Restless Heart, a public safety fair (with a rock climbing wall and a petting zoo), a golf tournament, and fireworks. The workshops provide instruction on preparing clay, constructing and decorating pots and offer the possibility of firing the finished products. Using prehistoric techniques, the participants process local clay and temper, use pukis to construct different types of pots, prepare a self-made yucca brush, and decorate the pottery with organic and mineral paint. The festival fills the town of Springdale near the park’s south entrance with skilled native flutists carrying traditional handmade instruments and everyone else who appreciates the enchanting rhythms of the native flute. Learn about the power of flash floods to shape the landscape, see hanging gardens, and be awed by the massive vertical slabs of Navajo sandstone that form the canyon. The group will hike to the confluence of Orderville Canyon. During the return trip, participants will perform a brief clean-up in the Narrows to help keep the area primitive. Rodeo fans can enjoy a colorful PRCA event and cheer their favorite cowboys at the Days of the Old West Rodeo. Top contestants compete in steer wrestling, team roping, saddle bronc riding, PWBR Barrel Racing, tie- down roping, and everyone's favorite -bull riding. This is a Dodge Series Rodeo event, with stock contractor Bar T Rodeo Inc. The announcer is Chad Nicholson. The specialty act for 2008 is The Wild Child, one of the most spectacular acts in professional rodeo, combining his abilities as a bull fighter and professional motocross racer into an amazing act of comedy and wild stunts. Scott Nicolay presents his research focuses on the ritual use of caves and other earth openings in the Southwest. Previous studies describe numerous caves in the Southwest as shrines or ceremonial sites. Based upon this earlier body of academic literature and his own recent cave observations, Scott has been tracing evidence of the ceremonial use of caves by humans across the Four Corners and beyond, including Mesoamerican links. Join Ron Kay,Ranger/Naturalist and Author of "Ron Kay's Guide to Zion National Park" for a 7 mile interpretive hike in the Zion Narrows. Experience this dramatic area with Ron who will discuss the geology, plants and animals of Zion. Much of the walk takes Place in the Virgin River and participants should be prepared to get wet and to walk on river rocks using a walking stick. Learn about the power of flash floods to shape the landscape, see hanging gardens, and be awed by the massive vertical slabs of Navajo sandstone that form the canyon. The group will hike to the confluence of Orderville Canyon. During the return trip, participants will perform a brief clean-up in the Narrows to help keep the area primitive. Goblin Valley State Park 22nd Annual Best Dam Bike Ride The Harmons Best Dam Bike Ride is the largest two-day organized cycling event in the state. Bike MS raises funds for MS research and local programs which help Utahns affected by multiple sclerosis. This two day event features great food, live music, themed rest stops, and more! Participants collect contributions from friends, family, and co-workers to sponsor their ride. This year three thousand Utahns will participate in the event, hoping to raise $1.7 million.
