The Spider and the Bee
Based on Jonathan Swift’s story “Battle of the Books” this play for young audiences finds a serious
spider and a lighthearted bee in the great debate of science vs. art. A trial is held during which the audience
becomes the jury and must decide the “victor”. Loaded with broad humor, fun, and food for thought.
Featuring the students of Theatre Arts Conservatory and directed by Colleen Lewis.  Shows are
Monday June, 2 and Tuesday, June 3 at 7pm in the Studio Theatre of the Rose Wagner, 138 W. 300 S.,

Summer Reading Kick-off Party
Join the Salt Lake County Libraries for the buggiest Summer Reading Kick-off Party that has been held
at Wheeler Farm (6351 South 900 East).  There will be free giveaways, great entertainment, and bug
exhibits.

Community and Family Night
The first Monday of the month from 6-8pm the Springville Museum of Art hosts an opportunity to meet
local artists, enjoy live music, mingle with friends and neighbors, browse through the museum, and create a
work of art.  This month, families are introduced to guest artist Julie Buckley. Marlene Tays leads an art

Reel Science:Tarantula (1955)
Looking for some scary fun? Join us for a movie screening of Tarantula, where a mad scientist has an
experiment go horribly wrong and ends up with a rampaging spider on the loose. A lively discussion will

Riverton Arts Festival
Admission has been FREE! This is a Family Event. There are two stages one for dance/physical
performances (showcasing local high school and cultural dance groups) and one for music/vocal
performances (Riverton Metropolitan Orchestra performs a free concert). The artists make their own
wares and most provide a “hands-on” art activity. There is a Children’s Art Park where children of all ages
have the opportunity to ‘make and take’ various art projects. Other activities include an amateur art show, a

Disco Musical: The Musical
Wheeler Farm hosts a presentation by The Midvale Copperview Theatre Arts Youth Program, featuring

Friday Night Flicks: Bee Movie
The Bee Movie is rated PG, and is 90 minutes.    Free movies in the park all summer long!  Salt Lake City
will show a FREE movie at a new park every week.  The movies are shown on a large inflatable screen and
movie treats and pizza will be sold, while popcorn is free thanks to sponsors.   Shows begin at dusk – around
9pm.   This week’s movie is at the Utah State Fairgrounds, 155 N 1000 W.  

Summer Reading Program: Children's Concert
Doc Young makes music that entertains and involves kids of all ages. Blending blues, country, folk, and rock

Children’s Matinee: Moosebutter
Children’s Matinees are free and are held every Friday at 2pm in the Murray Park gazebo, located in the
center of Murray Park, June through August.  In case of inclement weather, these performances may move
to Pavilion #5.

Arts in the Park: Moosebutter
Murray Park hosts concerts in its amphitheater evenings June through August.  Tickets may be purchased
in advance at the Murray Park office located at 296 East Murray Park Lane or at the gate 45 minutes
before show time.  Tickets are $6 for adults, and $5 for children and seniors.
Tonight’s performers are Moosebutter, a comedy quartet that shares their love of music through funny
songs in a variety of styles featuring a cappella harmonies, hilarious stage antics, audience interaction, and
amazing vocal acrobatics.  8pm

Scientist in the Spotlight: Passing it Down
UMNH offers families the chance to find out what it’s really like to be a scientist with Scientist in the
Spotlight at the Utah Museum of Natural History. Meet local researchers and explore current science
through hands-on activities and demonstrations. Fun for adults and children!
This month learn how cancer researcher Deb Neklason puts DNA to work to uncover the hidden secrets

Bluegrass Festival
Fort BuenaVentura presents its First Annual Bluegrass Festival.  From noon til 6pm you can experience
Ridin’ the Faultline, Red Desert Ramblers, The Nay Family Band, the Super Musican Jam, an open mic,

Draper Trails Day
Draper Community Foundation and the Draper Chamber of Commerce will be sponsoring the annual
Draper Trails Day on June 7, 2008. There will be a variety of fun, recreational trail activities for the whole
family. This event will begin at 7am at the Andy Ballard Equestrian Center, 1600 E. Highland Drive. Trail
activities will include Draper Challenge 5k, 10k, 20k run/walk, Road Bike Race, leisure and high adventure

Conservation Carousel Opening at Hogle Zoo
After years in the making, the new Conservation Carousel and Oasis Plaza at Hogle Zoo are finally
opening! Be a part of Hogle Zoo history for the Conservation Carousel opening ceremonies Saturday
June 7, 2008 at 9:00 am (gates open at 8:30 that morning only). As an added bonus that morning, the very

11th Annual Utah Rivers Council Paddle Festival
Launch your summer at the Utah Rivers Council Paddle Festival! Come out to Little Dell Reservoir just

Frontier Fest
A celebration of Utah’s cultural heritage, will take place June 13 and 14, 2008 at Gardner Village in West
Jordan. The sights, sounds and color of the frontier encountered by the pioneers in 1847 come alive as
storytellers, re-enactors, musicians, square dancers, cowboy poets, songwriters and craftsman of all types
and ages perform and exhibit. Concerts, games, food and family fun can be found all day both days.
Musical stage show "The Ghosts of Gardner Village" presented 4 times Saturday at Noon, 2:30, 5 and 7:
30 PM in The Gathering Place
Ticketed events in the Gathering Place include “Frontier StoryFest”, “Frontier Hoedown” and
“Caboose” in Concert on Friday and the new Utah Heritage Arts Production “The Ghosts of Gardner

Free events throughout the Village include Pioneer Re-enactor exhibits and Corner Concerts by
bluegrass and folk musicians both days as well as the first annual “Clogging Showdown” on Friday and the

Chalk Art Festival
The 6th annual Chalk Art Festival will be held downtown Salt Lake City from 4-9pm. You’re invited to

Dairy Days
Come celebrate all things dairy as Farm Country presents Dairy Days from 10 am to 4 pm, with the help of

Cats, The Kid Barn, and My Gym.  Families can enjoy a reptile show from Scales and Tails, a
presentation at 12:30 by the Children's Theatre: Pecos Bill - An American Tall Tale, magic shows, train
rides, pony rides, and face painting,  Some activities have a small fee.

Huck Finn Day
10:00 am to 1:00 pm, free admission.  Fitts Park, 3050 South 500 East  Come out and enjoy free fishing in
the streams that run through Fitts Park. We stock them with over 500 pounds of trout! Kids 12 and under
are welcome to fish. What a great way to introduce the kids to fishing in a community setting!  At 12:45 pm
the SSL Fire Dept. will drop watermelons from the top of their extended fire truck bucket. Join the fun
and guess how far the pieces will splatter. The closest guess wins a prize and has their name listed on a

ROCKIN' Utah: I Spy
Join the naturalist for a 2-mile round trip hike at 9 a.m. to a secluded pond surrounded by vegetation and full

Founders Day Celebration
THIS IS THE PLACE hosts a 9 a.m. military parade, an historical re-enactment by the famed Buffalo
Soldiers at 11 a.m.,and Village Interpretations throughout the day. FORT DOUGLAS MUSEUM
hosts a USO show, motorcycle rally, Cavalry exhibit,and the Utah Nat’l Guard’s 23rd Army Band. The
ARMY RESERVE celebrates its 100th year at 10 a.m. at Historical Fort Douglas with a flag
ceremony. Gov. Jon Huntsman, Jr. will cut the birthday cake. The Southern Utah Heritage Choir
performs from 5 – 6:30 p.m. Festivities, including a welcome home concert, and military exhibits continue until

32nd Annual Utah Asian Festival
As residents of Utah, we all benefit from the gorgeous scenery in our backyard, the unparalleled quality of

Holladay Arts Festival
Summerfest 2008 It’s time for the annual Summerfest Arts Festival which will be held this year on
Saturday, June 14th from noon to dusk at the park behind City Hall. The Holladay Arts Council began
this festival 8 years ago to give the residents of Holladay a family oriented all day outdoor activity that
included live entertainment, children's activities, ethnic foods and art exhibitors. Over 5000 yearly visitors to
the Festival have come to enjoy the broad range of activities for children with face and hair painting, blow up
slides and trampolines, and of course take home art projects. Summerfest has become an attraction for a
high caliber of returning artists and crafts persons with live performances by some of the best entertainers in
the State. So mark this date and join the Holladay Arts Council as they host another Summerfest

Sensational Sego Lily
Did you know that our State Flower is not only beautiful but also delicious to eat? After the plague of
crickets in the Salt Lake area, early pioneers learned to dig and eat the soft root of the Sego Lily for
survival. Join us for an edible plant adventure in finding these and other tasty plants in the Garden.  Garden
Adventures start promptly at 10 AM in Em's Sprout House. Please keep in mind space is limited to 25

Family Fieldtrip with UMNH: Archeoastronomy and Summer Solstice at Parowan Gap
$220 per person / $210 UMNH Members.  Open to adults and children 8 and above
Begin this weekend trip with an introduction to the Fremont culture at Fremont Indian State Park, home to
the largest known Fremont Indian village. Once at Parowan Gap, participants will be able to talk with
archaeologists about the amazing petroglyphs that surround the area, especially the “Zipper.” After sunset,
a star party is scheduled with telescopes pointed at different astronomical objects in the sky. Individual
instruction at astronomical locations will be provided. A June 14th planning meeting will be held to go over a

Predator Day
At Hogle Zoo you can learn all about nature’s predators and why they are so important to our ecosystem.
Meet the keepers of our predatory animals and learn about what you can do if you encounter them in the
wild. Conservancy agencies will be at the Zoo to help you better understand what you can do to save our
native predators. Also, watch our animals exhibit their natural behaviors as they interact with special

Hasbro FurReal Friends with Radio Disney
Join Hogle Zoo for an interactive, hands-on experience with Hasbro's FurReal Friends plush pets.
FurReal Friends are innovative animatronics that "come to life" with a child's touch. Children will be able to

Goats in the EcoGarden!
Join us for some goat-sitting and learn valuable ways to integrate animals into community gardens. Instead of
using harsh chemicals, we can put our goat friends to work picking off flower heads before they go to seed
and eating plant leaves so plants can't photosynthesize. With only a bare stem left, a weed has to work
overtime just to stay alive, giving native and more desirable plants a chance to grow. Goats also fertilize the
soil as they browse, eliminating the need for chemical fertilizers. This is a family-friendly event, but please, no

Recent immigration of refugees from Rwanda & Burundi have created a community of people who gather

popular, as well as traditional dances of traditional tribal origins.     Plan to bring your family and a picnic
dinner to Red Butte Garden this summer and enjoy evenings filled with kid-friendly entertainment, crafts and
activities.  Shows are at 6pm and 7pm, regular garden admission applies (members are free.)  Special Family
Night Rate of $24, which includes 2 adults and lup to 4 children.  

Taylorsville Dayzz: Utah Symphony Concert
Patriotic Concert at 8pm at Valley Regional Park, 5100 South 2700 West. This free concert will feature
the Wasatch Canononeers during the exciting 1812 Overture.

Summer Reading Program: The Bugologist Show
Join the wacky folks from Mad Science for a 45-minute safari that brings baffling bug mysteries to light.
You'll explore the insides and outsides of insects and participate in a bug-fest. This is a show of giant
entomological proportions!  2pm at Chapman Branch Library, and 7pm at Day-Riverside Library.  

Library Ant-ics
10:30am at Whitmore Library everyone can get down into the insect world with Mad Science! Enjoy a 45-
minute safari that brings baffling bug mysteries into the light. Explore the insides and outsides of insects,
participate in a bug-fest and spark interest in insects. A show of entomological proportion! No registration
required.

Miss Spider and Friends Picnic
You’re invited to Draper Library for a friends & family night with Miss Spider and all of her friends. Bring
your own picnic, blanket, friends & family. We'll provide buggy family friendly games, activities, drinks, and
treats for all. Cameras welcome!  6pm

Celebrate the Red, White, and Blue
Herriman Library offers a patriotic program for the whole family with stories, crafts, and fun.  7pm

Reading Bugs Me!
Families are invited to Bingham Creek Library to join Zippo the Circus Fly, "Buggsie" a live white rabbit
and Mont Dutson for a Magnificent magic show.  7pm.

Scales and Tails
Families are invited to Holladay Library for fun interacting with scorpions, tarantulas, snakes, lizards and
turtles.  7pm

Riverton Library invites everyone to see the Starry-Eyed Puppets and their amazing bugged-eyed puppet
